assignment for 24 Mar

Rosalie Gascoigne's work was strongly encouraged by artist Michael Taylor and by James Mollison and was dictated by the colours and types of materials she was currently interested in. Mostly found materials can be widely seen in her work, such as wood, iron, wire, feathers and most famously yellow and orange retro-reflective road signs which flash and glow in the light.
Text is another important element of her work; she would cut up and rearrange the faded, naive lettering found on these items to create abstract yet evocative grids as has shown in the picture above. In my point of view,Gascoigne's work represent an abstract view, however, never lost their simplicity, which has created a strong element in modern arts. Take this work as an example, i really like the colour she chose since this bright colour is eye-capturing and enthusastic, which matches the ideas in post modernism period.
The work Understory was created by Fiona Hall in 1999-2004 and was handcrafted from glass beads, silver wire, rubber and boar's teeth. In this work,it has been shown obviously that Hall transformed everyday materials and objects, combining with a diverse array of techniques and arrange of artmaking skills to express the social and cultural significance. Moreover,in the other artworks of her, more daliy materials such as Coca-Cola cans and US dollar were used, which can be seen as a major feature of her production method.
Hall’s work explores the boundaries between the natural and the man-made,as well as expressing a strong theme. The arrangement of the materials and the organic shape she created in her work has in favour of enhancing the visual expression.

It is a product of Chinese people's intelligence and perspiration and has well communicated between western and asian culture

AN IMAGE OF A GREAT PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE

This building is an in-progressing project created by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. Similar with most of creative architects, in this project, Ban took this idea from Chinese hat. this building is going to be served as an exhibition site and the interior of it is neatly organised.

CREATIVE WORK AT HIGH SCHOOL

This wearable design was a work of mine from last year when i was doing design. In this work i kept the principle of simplicity, which can be seen in the colour i used is black and white dominate. The 3 "flowers" in the front were arranged in a scale order, with different sizes from the smallest at the bottom to the biggest at the top. All the materials i used came from reverse garbage. Thick metal wire was put inside the flowers as a frame, which is an idea i decided after thousands times of failure experiments. from the process of creating this wearable design, i learnt about the importance of patience in creating a work as well as design thinking and design process.
I wrote in the concept card that "The design conveys the struggle for achievement and the love of success. The black threaded through the white suggests the difficulties encountered and overcome. The use of scale and proportion expresses a gradual process, and the encircling form implies that the struggles are resolved and success achieved."
